The weekend of 14th -16th August has bought the District Apostle to the small town of Sondu in Rift Valley II District (working areas of Apostles Bernard Ochieng, Joseph Waingare and John Sire). Several hundreds of New Apostolic youth had gathered at Thurdibuoro Secondary School for the 2015 youth convention. The name of the school also means brown hill.
The youth arrived at the school in the afternoon of Thursday 13th August, registered their names and occupied the hostels which were empty at the time due to the school holidays.
Friday 14th was dedicated to the youth day and all youth gathered in the school hall. After the opening prayer from the District Apostle, It was time for the youth to showcase their talents. Many presenters came to the stage. Drama, Role-plays, Music, fashion show, memory verses, recitals of the NAC Creed and confirmation vow, jokes, etc. were some of the presentations that lasted the whole day. The evening of Friday was used for learning songs that would be used in the divine service on Sunday.
On Saturday 15th the youth were divided into groups and given topics to discuss. Senior youth (Over 18years) were separated from Junior youth (Under 18 years). The whole morning would be spent in discussions moderated by Apostle Joseph Waingare, Apostle John Sire and the five bishops in attendance. In the afternoon, a selected group of choir members began practicing the songs for the divine service while the rest of the youth went for sports and games.
Meanwhile in Kakamega; (200 km away) the District Apostle in the company of Lead Apostle Bernard Ochieng was conducting a Youth Divine service.
On Sunday 16th August 2015, the District Apostle closed the Rift Valley II 2015 youth convention at Thurdibuoro Secondary School with a festive divine service. He used the Bible text from 1 John 2:28
(And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming)
At about 14.00 hrs, the youth began boarding the buses to take them back home. From a distance you could hear the usual Songa mbele yelele yelele songa mbele and other local anthems fading away as the youth waved goodbye to their newly found friends.
